In Memory Of Terry Gahl
August 21 1948 - October 11, 2007
We will miss you!

Some of the region's most scenic and technical roads:

Hwy 60 between Dahlonega and Morganton.

Hwy 180, From Suches to hwy 129. At hwy 129, go left and then take a right onto 180 again. 180 eventually ends into hwy 75 North of Helen.

Hwy 129 between Blairsville and Cleveland

Hwy Alt75 from intersection of hwy 129 in Cleveland to Helen. In Helen, pick up hwy 75 and go to the intersection of Hwy 76 near Lake Burton.

Richard B Russell Scenic Parkway - hwy 348. Cuts off to the left from Alt. 75 if traveling North.

Hwy 197 from hwy 76 near lake Burton south to Clarkesville

Hwy 76 from Hiawassee to Clayton

Hwy 52 from Ellijay to Chatsworth, over Fort Mountain.

Some Lesser Known Favorites:

Germany Road - Off Hwy 76, Just West of Clayton.

War Woman Road. - Out of Clayton

Skeenah Gap Road. - entrance off hwy 60 between Suches and Morganton

Dial Road, entrance off of hwy 60 between Suches and Morganton. Note, as you are heading down Dial rd. from 60, turn left on Newport Rd.(bridge over river), to avoid gravel part of Dial road. Newport goes by Aska Rd., and eventually deadends into Doublehead Gap Rd.

Roy Road. - Between hwy 52, (near Ellijay) and Doublehead Gap Rd. On Doublehead Gap Rd., you can take a right and eventually turn left on Newport Rd. Towards Dial.

Aska Road. - out of Blue Ridge, Ga. - eventually runs into Newport Rd, near Dial.

Burnt Mountain Road - out of Jasper. It eventually becomes hwy 136. After reaching the top of the mountain and going down the mountain ridge for a little ways, take a left on Sunrise Ridge Rd. It eventually becomes Burnt Mtn. Road again before it runs into Hwy 52.

Motorcycle-Friendly Restaurants in North Georgia

A few of our favorite places to eat while out riding. This is just a start - there are several others and we hope to update this list in the future. These places all have something unique and interesting, plus they are known to be extra friendly to motorcyclists. Some of them are “out of the way” and we recommend you call first to make sure they are open on the day you are riding.

Two Wheels Only Resort aka "TWO" -706-747-5151. Located on hwy 60, in Suches, TWO is without a doubt the most famous North Georgia motorcycling destination. On a pretty day during riding season, the parking lot is completely filled with all types of motorcycles, from offroad dualsport bikes to cruisers. Well known for their “Big A%#” hamburger, steak sandwiches and Onion Rings. This is the one that started it all, folks.

Owltown Market - 706-835-5695. Owned by fellow motorcyclists and situated nicely on 129 at Lower Owltown Rd, the Owltown Market has gas, a deli that serves fresh meat (we've even seen ALLIGATOR on the menu!), an espresso bar, and a full menu ranging from burgers to sandwiches. You won't leave the store empty handed, either! We highly recommend the Amish-made peanut butter...

The Foothill Grill - 706-864-0863. A family owned and operated business, the Foothill Grill is truly a treasure. Settled just south of downtown Dahlonega on Hwy 9, the Grill is a great place to grab breakfast before heading north. One of our favorite breakfasts in the area!

Cooper’s Creek Store - 706-838-4514. Located on hwy 60, in a bend in the road at the intersection of Cooper’s Creek Rd. It’s between Suches and Morganton. It’s a country general store, but they typically sell some good barbecue and hotdogs. There are some picnic tables outside and a great place to watch the motorcycles go by on 60. The owners are motorcyclists themselves and are always very welcoming to fellow riders. Note: They also sell premium gas which is few and far between in this area.

Van Zandt’s General Store - 706-838-4366. Just found out a few weeks ago this hidden gem has unfortunately CLOSED! Located on Newport Rd., near the intersection of Dial Rd, in the little area called Dial. Newly renovated old General Store, first started in the mid 1800’s. This is a cool little out of the way place that has a great view of a valley, Toccoa River and mountains. Great food - Fresh stews, soups, barbecue sandwiches etc. Some of our customers tell us they actually plan their riding day around stopping to eat there.

Toccoa Riverside Restaurant - 706-632-7891. 8055 Aska Rd. Blue Ridge. - not far from the old Shallowford Bridge. Overlooks the Toccoa River. Casual place, but has a full menu - Fresh trout, Crab Cakes, Hamburgers, Sandwiches, Vegetables etc.

Poole’s Barbecue - 706-635-4100. 164 Craig Street, East Ellijay. This is the place with all the cut out pigs on the hill, off hwy 515. One of the most well known barbecue places in North Ga.

Rib Country Barbecue 706-781-3530. 373 Kousin’s Drive, Blairsville. Known for their smoked Turkey and deserts. Some of the best desert cobblers in North Georgia.

Pappy’s Riverside Restaurant - 706-745-9885. 2749 Pappy’s Plaza, Blairsville. Nice river setting. Barbecue and various country type foods.

Lorena’s Food and Spirits - 706-265-2008 Next door to Moto 400, in Dawsonville. A popular restaurant with motorcyclists, right off hwy 400. Full menu. Some of our customer favorites include their Reuben Sandwiches and their Fried Shrimp. They have live music on most weekends.

Wurst Haus - 706-878-2647. Located on Main Street in Helen. Usually full of motorcycles right on the main street. Great German food. One of our customer’s favorites is their French Dip. And, for after the ride, they are known for their German Beer Selection.

Crimson Moon - 706-864-3982. Located on the Square - 24 North Park Street, Dahlonega. Cool little funky place in an old historic house. Known in the motorcycling community for their Saturday and Sunday brunch. Live entertainment on the weekends.

Turner’s Corner Café - Now Closed. Located at the corner of hwy129/19. Was one of our favorites. The back deck sat on the creek and was a very popular motorcyclist hangout. Keep a lookout if someone reopens it... rumor is someone has bought the cafe however it is unconfirmed at this time!

A BIG thank you to Mike Moss and Judy Mecham for contributing this article.
